Results of practical application of information model technology at the stage of construction of transport infrastructure facilities

The use of information modeling technology at all stages of the life cycle of transport infrastructure facilities in recent years has moved from the phase of discussion by the industry scientific and professional community into the phase of active practical implementation, which is supported both by government customers and by contractors and enterprises.

The Perm Territory is one of the leading regions that already has experience in using information models not only at the design stage, but also at the stage of construction and installation works (hereinafter referred to as construction and installation work) of a large transport infrastructure facility - the highway “Perekhod St. Startseva - Oktyabryat Ave. - st. Tselinnaya" on the site of the street. Uinskaya from st. Yursha to st. Griboyedov (hereinafter referred to as the Object).

Information models provide specialists of the Regional State Budgetary Institution “Department of Highways and Transport” of the Perm Territory (hereinafter referred to as KGBU “UADiT” of the Perm Territory) the opportunity to ensure effective control over the progress and quality of the results of the implementation of government contracts using modern information exchange tools, the speed of obtaining which allows significantly increase the level of information support and the validity of management decisions.

We began creating an information model of the highway “Crossing St. Startseva - Oktyabryat Ave. - st. Tselinnaya" from the choice of a common data environment in which interaction of all project participants is ensured, taking into account the specific technical parameters of the object itself and the technological processes of its creation. The main criteria for choosing a shared data environment were to provide the ability to:

  • linking the elements of the Facility with design documentation, working documentation, contract statements and as-built documentation;
  • visualization of activities reflecting the construction process;
  • taking into account the specifics of transport infrastructure facilities.
Based on the results of the relevant competitive procedure, the right to conclude a state contract for the provision of services to support a digital information model at the stage of developing detailed documentation and performing construction and installation works of the Object was received by S-INFO LLC, which uses software of its own design as a general data environment, which is included in the Unified Register of Russian Programs for Electronic Computers and Databases.

The inclusion of the requirements for the preparation of project documentation of the Facility in the format of a digital information model by the KGBU "UADiT" of the Perm Territory made it possible to quickly create a consolidated digital information model (hereinafter referred to as CIM) of the Facility in the S-INFO software and provide role-based multi-user access to it for all interested participants in the construction process of the Facility.

An undoubted advantage of the Object CIM created using the “S-INFO” software is the presence in it, in addition to a visual three-dimensional display of all structural elements and structures of the Object, a complete set of documents linked to the corresponding elements of the model and justifying the technical solutions adopted for construction - volumes of design documentation, technical conditions, approvals, conclusions, initial permitting documents, etc.

The essence of the currently implemented process of maintaining the CIM of the Facility is to ensure operational management of data on the actual implementation of construction and installation work at the Facility, which provides all participants in the construction process with ample opportunities to make informed decisions as part of the performance of their functional duties.

For example, KGBU "UADiT" of the Perm Territory, as a customer, without the need to prepare any additional requests, has constant access to visual and intuitive objective information about the actual progress of construction and installation work, preparation of working and as-built documentation, acceptance and payment of work.

An important task that determines the convenience, simplicity and transparency of working with the Object CIM was the determination and selection of the level of geometric detail (display) of individual structural elements of the Object and the level of detail of the data structures of the model itself. A comprehensive analysis of graphic materials of the design documentation and their comparison with the functional responsibilities of participants in the construction process of the Facility, carried out by specialists from S-INFO LLC, revealed that the level of geometric detail of the structural elements of the Facility, worked out at the stage of design documentation, is sufficient and can be used at the support stage Construction and installation works at the Facility. However, the data structure used at the design documentation stage does not allow solving the tasks of maintaining the Facility’s CIM at the stage of developing working documentation and performing construction and installation work. This problem was solved by using the functionality of the S-INFO software, which makes it possible to create several data structures within one project, for example, used to manage specific information characteristic of specific stages of the life cycle of transport infrastructure objects. Taking into account the above, it was decided to form the following data structures in the CIM Object:

  1. The “Project Documentation” structure is intended to provide quick access to project documentation files for the Facility that have received a positive expert opinion.
  2. The “Detailed Documentation” structure is the main one when supporting the Facility’s CIM at the stage of developing working documentation and performing construction and installation works. This structure is used for quick access to working documentation materials, and also allows you to obtain up-to-date information about the process of development, approval or adjustment (release of changes) of working documentation volumes.

  3. The “Contract Estimate” structure is used for quick access to estimate documentation containing information about the types of work on the construction of the Facility, the planned and actual volumes and costs of their implementation, as well as to organized files of as-built documentation. In addition, this structure is used to generate interactive reports on the implementation of specific estimate items and to visualize in the CIM Object information about the actual implementation of construction and installation works, their acceptance and payment.
  4. The “Accompanying Documents” structure is used for quick access to the main documents of the Facility, stored in the CIM of the Facility in the form of scanned copy files: initial permitting documents for the construction of the Facility; executive documentation; Acts KS-2 and Certificates KS-3.

  5. The “Contract Schedule” structure is used for quick access to information and documents that reflect compliance with or deviation from the planned deadlines for the completion of the work of the Facility construction schedule.

All of the above data structures and the documents stored in them are associated with the corresponding three-dimensional displays of the structural elements of the Object, which allows you to quickly move into the CIM from a graphic display to the corresponding documents, or vice versa from documents to graphics.

It should be noted that the functionality provided by the “S-INFO” software allows specialists of the KGBU “UADiT” of the Perm Territory to subsequently independently supplement the created CIM of the Object with a data structure for managing information at the stage of operation of the Object.

The analytical reports block that exists in the S-INFO software allows, based on the list of attribute parameters and the availability of relevant data
using them in the Object CIM to generate tables, graphs or diagrams, the visual display of which is independently configured by users who have the appropriate rights. To configure analytical reports, either standard tools of the S-INFO software are used, or, after exporting data, tools of third-party office applications.
